The 1r mod team capped off the regular season with a big win in front of a full house.
Jerry Trejo’s 4T was in first at the end of lap 1 followed by the S56 of Scott Bivens, Jan Korth’s 42K and the 1R of Matt Richards. Richards took over 3rd from Korth on lap 2 and the next lap saw Rik Gropp’s V45 move into fourth. Shortly after that John Saathoff had the rear end gear break in his 96J, causing him to slow dramatically and collect the 95 of Dylan Smith. The yellow flag sent Gropp back to fifth and put Korth back in the fourth spot. Gropp again got past Korth on the restart lap. The next time around Richards got around Bivens for second and Gropp followed his example by taking third from Bivens with 6 down. With 9 laps over Jordan Grabouski brought his #30 up to fourth and the next lap Richards got past Trejo for the lead. Grabouski took only 2 more laps to grab third and then moved to second the next lap. With just 6 to go Gropp grabbed the third spot and Bob Zoubek’s 5S moved up to fourth. Zoubek advanced one more spot with 3 laps left for the final position change in the top four. The order at the checkers was Richards, Grabouski, Zoubek and Gropp. By finishing 1 position ahead of Zoubek, Grabouski won the season championship by a mere 5 points.
